How to Use
Try diluting into a carrier oil (ie. Coconut) and delivering onto athlete's foot or other pesky fungal infections. Add drops into a few ounces of water and use as a heavenly toner for the face. Infuse into a carrier oil to aid in cramps or for areas of poor circulation. Get a spray bottle filled with water and infuse some juniper oil or rosemary oil for a cooling, deodorizing antiseptic mist.
Add to your sponge when cleaning the kitchen – anti-infective and very cleansing. Juniper is great diffused into your bedroom at times of colds/flus (try with eucalyptus & rosemary). Infuse single drops into club soda for a refreshing beverage. Experiment with your cooking – report what you find!

Dr. Nick's Notes
Juniper berry essential oil has been an incredible essence to explore over the years. Throw a few drops into a spray bottle with water and you have a crowd pleaser at an outdoor event with warm temperatures. This same solution is tonifying, tightens pores and reduces acne. Very cooling, refreshing, juniper tends to increase circulation and blend well with other herbaceous essences.
Wild and fresh, this extract is so clear and offers much to botanical perfumery. My most recent experience in playing with juniper berry essential oil, used 19 different botanical extracts, 8 wild-crafted from Arizona / Utah for “Wild-Fly”, a specially formulated blend for Firefly Gathering in Arizona. Juniper oil heightens the notes, cools the blend and pops an additional layer of depth in conjunction with other essences.
Juniper berry essential oil extract is interesting to experiment in the kitchen, adding into club soda creates a satisfying beverage like no other! Try massaging into your temples or over your body on a hot day – really optimal into your lymph nodes. Also rather nice in sore muscles for a cooling, localized analgesic experience. Effective against acne and dry, overly wet skin sebum – do enjoy on the face!
FAQs
Juniper berry essential oil is steam distilled from the berries of Juniperus communis and has a clean, fresh, woody, and slightly fruity aroma. It is traditionally used as a detoxifying and purifying oil, both physically and energetically. In aromatherapy, it is valued for its ability to support urinary health, reduce water retention, and assist the body's natural cleansing processes. Energetically, juniper is used to clear negative energy and create protective boundaries, making it a popular choice for ritual work and energetic clearing.
Juniper berry is well established as a diuretic and detoxifying oil in herbal and aromatherapy traditions. Applied topically in a diluted carrier oil and massaged over the kidneys and lower back, it may support urinary function and help the body release excess fluid. It is also used in massage blends for joint support, particularly for conditions associated with uric acid buildup. Its antimicrobial properties make it useful in natural deodorant formulas, and it supports respiratory health when diffused or used in steam inhalation.
Juniper has one of the longest documented histories of ritual use of any plant, stretching back thousands of years across European, Native American, and Tibetan traditions. It has been burned as incense to cleanse spaces, used to protect against illness and unwanted energy, and incorporated into ceremony as a purifying agent. In modern energy work, juniper berry essential oil is diffused or applied to support energetic clearing, create a protective atmosphere, and support grounding and clarity during meditation or ritual.
Juniper berry pairs naturally with other clean, woody, and resinous oils. It works beautifully with frankincense, cedarwood, and sandalwood for grounding, ceremonial blends. Citrus oils like bergamot and grapefruit brighten its earthy character. Lavender and clary sage create a relaxing combination with juniper. For detox or muscle support blends, pair it with black pepper, ginger, and eucalyptus. Its crisp, forest-like quality makes it a natural partner for other coniferous oils like black spruce and fir.
Juniper berry is generally safe for adults when used in appropriate dilutions of 1 to 2 percent topically. However, it is contraindicated during pregnancy due to its traditional association with uterine stimulation. It should also be used cautiously by those with kidney disease, as its diuretic properties may place additional strain on compromised kidneys. Always consult a healthcare professional if you have existing health conditions before incorporating juniper berry into your routine.
